Dance I & II
Dance I is open to Freshman through Senior students looking to fulfill a Wellness credit. This class is designed for students interested in learning beginning dance techniques of a variety of styles including jazz, ballet, contemporary and hip hop dance. Students will engage in choreography and dance fitness to enhance strength, flexibility, coordination and rhythm all while developing creative problem solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively. No experience is necessary.

Dance II covers dance genres previously learned and furthers the student’s knowledge by exploring Musical Theater and Tap dance as well. Dance II offers similar fitness and rhythmic components of Dance I while picking up the pace and challenging the intermediate dancer. Students will develop their choreographic skills while working collaboratively with their peers to create and flex their artistic muscles. This course is open to Sophomores through Seniors
Hip Hop Dance
Cultural studies of Hip Hop meet wellness and dance in this exciting new class offering. This class is designed for experienced Hip Hop dancers and aspiring Hip Hop dancers. Improve your balance, flexibility, agility and overall coordination by taking a dance class that focuses on these important areas of fitness. Students engage with the history and evolution of hip hop dance, its related art forms, and concepts of wellness within Hip Hop culture all the while learning how to break, pop, lock, and milly rock along with the break beats of classic and modern Hip-Hop.
Repertory Dance Ensemble is a one-year co-curricular course designed for the advanced level dancer who wishes to improve thier technique while learning concepts of dance. Students in this class will study contemporary techniques, experience the various roles of producing a dance concert, have the opportunity to choreograph their own works, and experience the choreographic process from professional guest teachers as well. They will also study some more non-traditional concepts such as improvisation, music editing and anatomy for dancers. This course can be taken for .5 Fine Arts credit. Admittance is by audition or recommendation. Auditions are held mid-October and coincide with Orchesis placements.
Orchesis Dance Company is an extra-curricular, Spring season performance group. The company rehearses student-choreographed and professionally set works from February to April. The season ends with a concert series in late April. ODC is built on a strong, supportive dance community of all ability levels. No experience is necessary, just passion for dance and performance! We believe that participation in ODC is a special achievement for those who are dedicated to the art of dance. All are welcome, placement classes are held in mid October and rehearsals begin the first week of February.
