FAQs

How often does Orchesis Dance Company meet?

Orchesis dance company schedules are based on what dances you are in and when they rehearse. Most times dances rehearse either from 3:15-4:15 or 4:20-5:20. You could have rehearsals during one or both slots.

When are tryouts and auditions for each group?

Auditions are in mid October for both Orchesis and Repertory Dance Ensemble. Dancers looking to participate in RDE must audition each year, while Seniors who have been in Orchesis for the prior 3 years do not need to audition for Orchesis.

Do I have to have dance experience to participate?

No you do not! Orchesis Dance Co. is designed to fit your needs in regards to scheduling, ability level and what you are looking to take on. You will be cast in dances that meet your level of dancing while challenging you at the same time to become a better performer!

Whats the difference betweeen a placement class and an audition?

The placement class is for ODC, and is meant to organize the group based on ability level since it is a no-cut activity. This is so you don't get cast in dances that are too hard or too easy for you. The audition for RDE is meant to determine whether or not you will get the recommendation to register for the course the following year.

What is the out-of-school time comittment for RDE?

RDE has a few mandatory commitments outside of class but not many! Things such as our State Festival, Technical and Dress rehearsals for the show, and guest artist rehearsals are some of the things required to be a part of as a member of the ensemble. We also have fundraising events and field trips that dancers are expected to participate in.

What if I'm an experienced incoming Freshman?

If you are an incoming Freshman with a high level of dance knowledge and ability, you will be placed in one of the higher levels of the Orchesis Dance Company. RDE is not available to Freshman, but you are still able to enroll in Dance for PE credit!
